Barry Sussman MD, FACS


Dr. Barry Sussman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. He received his MD degree from the New York University School of Medicine in 1973. At NYU, he served as President of his third and fourth year classes and was awarded the Alumni Association Award and the Roche Service Award upon graduation. After finishing his surgical residency at the New York University-Bellvue Medical Center under Frank Spencer, he completed a Vascular Surgical Fellowship at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in 1979. Since then, he has been a member of Englewood Surgical Associates. Dr. Sussman is board certified in General Surgery and also holds a Certificate of Special Competency in General Vascular Surgery. He has successfully been recertified in both specialties. In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is a member of numerous professional societies, and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Sussman served as President of the Vascular Society of New Jersey, and is on the Credentials Committee of the American College of Surgeons. At Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, he is Associate Chief of the Department Surgery, past President of the Medical Staff, and has been on the Board of Trustees for ten years. In addition to considerable skill and experience in vascular surgery, Dr. Sussman has developed a wide following for his effective treatment of breast diseases, including conservation breast surgery and sentinel node biopsy, for which he has been recognized by the American Cancer Society. He has been performing laparoscopic abdominal procedures for more than 20 years.

Dr. Sussman and his wife Barbara, a teacher in the Tenafly school system, have three children and live in Tenafly.
